Tris or Tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane or THAM is an organic compound with the formula (HOCH2)3CNH2. Tris is extensively used in biochemistry and molecular biology. In biochemistry, Tris is widely used as a component of buffer solutions, such as in TAE and TBE buffer, especially for solutions of nucleic acids. It contains a primary amine and thus undergoes the reactions associated with typical amines, e.g. condensations with aldehydes.

It widely used in medicine, petrochemical industry, coatings, rubber etc.It can be used as catalyst, promoter, flame retardant, light&thermal stabilizer, lubricants anti-oxidation, and also can be used as polymerization initiators, the material of antibacterial drugs, such as clindamycin etc.

7-Tridecanone is an isomer of 2-Tridecanone which is a flavor component of many food products. 7-Tridecanone, however, is much less distributed. It is also used to study the toxicity of narcotic industrial chemicals.
