What is Ethyl Butyrate?
Ethyl Butyrate is a colorless liquid with pineapple flavor. It is soluble in ethanol and ether, insoluble in water and glycerin. It is also flammable as well as irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin.
Ethyl Butyrate is naturally found in strawberry, olive oil and other vegetable oils. It is produced industrially from butyric acid and ethanol.
Ethyl Butyrate is permitted to be used as an edible flavor in China, which is often used to prepare fruit-flavored edible flavors such as apples, bananas, pineapples, and whisky flavors. It can also be used as cream flavors. The dosage, generally, is about 1400mg/kg in chewing gum, 98mg/kg in candy; 93mg/kg in baked food, 44mg/kg in ice cream and 28mg/kg in soft drink.
Ethyl Butyrate could also be used as a solvent in industry, it can dissolve nitrocellulose, various natural or synthetic resins.
